Are there traditions that you keep?

Maybe family traditions, cultural traditions, personal rituals? All these things are really important. They give you a sense of meaning, belonging, purpose and spirituality. They help you understand your place in the world. Given the challenging year we have had they are even more important right now. My family is of German decent and we spend advent (the month before Christmas) baking and munching on delicious nutting and spicy cookies. I keep up the tradition (see picture below for this years baking efforts) and share widely with family and friends. Busy? But feel like to are working at your best? Don’t forget to oscillate!

Being busy and motivated when you are working on something is great. You are often performing at your peak during these times. However, if it is your normal, you might struggle to sustain your performance and you might even crash and burn.

Manage your energy by oscillating between hard intense work and something easier. Or better still, rest completely before working up to your peak again.

This weekend I had the opportunity to combine a job that needed doing with some relaxation time in Wellington and Martinborough – a beautiful way to oscillate.
