We all want to be (or are told to be) aligned with organisational values but are we really? A study by Mashlah confirmed that personal values have a huge significant on the way we think, act and decisions we make. And this includes the way we think, act and decisions we make at work. So how significant are organisational values?

I was working with a team recently on this topic. For this team their individual, team and organisation values were well aligned. But what if they aren’t? What implications does this have on team behaviour, delivering outcomes and meeting stakeholders needs? It seems every client and team I talk to right now is overwhelmed, close to burnout, tired, stressed. Maybe the weather is contributing (winter in New Zealand) maybe it's the time of year (financial year end for some) or maybe its just six months between Christmases (when most find time for a break).

If you work in the high performance zone a lot you are in danger of overwhelm and burnout. They key is oscillation. Have some rest time. If you can't rest, do some tasks that are a less taxing and you enjoy to get some balance.

If you or your team would like to work on managing performance and oscillation, please get in touch.... Or, you could wait until Christmas?

Native birds tweeting, ocean view, Auckland city on the horizon, excellent food and wine, and yes some rain clouds. A perfect planning retreat! I've only been here one day so far and already made changes to my business model.

Do you take enough time out from BAU (horizon one) to work on horizon's three (the future) and two (innovation to meet the future)? It's hard to carve out the time when there is so much going on - but it is critical for personal and business success.

If you would like to talk about how your or your team can balance horizons, please get in touch.
