We can store some energy and have some in reserve, but if the energy we use, or give to others, is greater than the energy we generate, or receive from others, it’s impossible to sustain balance. And we all know what that feels like!

I have been doing an energy audit with myself recently, and appreciate I need to rebalance. My focus is to increase areas that fill my energy reservoirs (sleeping well, appreciating nature, time with friends & family), and reduce/manage energy drainers where I can (although some are out of my control).

I think regular energy audits would be beneficial for all of us, and in a team context too. Some simple questions to ask yourselves and your teams:

· What do you do that drains your energy?

· How can you minimise or manage that better?

· What do you, or can you do, that increases your energy?

· How can you get more of that?

If you or your team would benefit from an energy audit, please get in touch.

Some twists with my fifth self-imposed writing retreat. First, mountains (National Park – central North Island) instead of sea. And second, it’s actually a “non-writing” retreat. I need a break and can’t fit in a holiday at the moment – so, I’m taking advice from a friend and repurposing other scheduled time.

If you are a team coach (like me) you will be aware that self-awareness, self-care and resilience are required as part of our core competencies (EMCC, 2020). It must be our priority to serve our clients well.

But a message for all of us here… if you feel you need a holiday (like me), you are probably already past the point of needing a break (like me). Be self-aware, take regular breaks, don’t just power on, or you might find yourself imploding (like me).

PS – plenty of pretty snow topped volcanoes around here.

If you or your team would like to talk through your priorities and how you can repurpose your time to enable better outcomes for all, please get in touch.

I was telling my friend in the weekend how exhausted I felt, and how guilty I felt about feeling exhausted. She told me not to be so hard on myself, and list all the things I can stop doing instead. And the notion of my “not to do list” was born (see below).

Trying to achieve our best in the context of the crazy and challenging world we find ourselves in is hard work. I suspect many of you and your teams might be feeling exhausted too. Why not try creating “not to do lists”?

If you, or your team, would like to talk to me (or my wise friend), about your “not to do” options, please get in touch. In the meantime, if you would like to copy some of the items on my list, feel free :-).
